We want to kickstart a digital transformation to tackle inactivity and increase participation in sport and physical activity.
Currently, when you search online for a physical activity to do, it’s hard to find the information you need. You have to search across different websites to find something to do that’s at the right location, at the right time, and at the right price. Even then, there might be gaps in the information about what equipment you need, or whether the venue is accessible. Or the information might be completely out of date!
It’s stopping people from being more active, or active at all.
In fact, research from Sport England shows one fifth of adults have been put off doing a physical activity because it was too difficult to find or book online.
Other sectors have made it easy to find and book opportunities online. Whether it’s a hotel, flight, takeaway or cinema ticket, we can get the information we need and make a decision to book in minutes. We want to make it as easy to book a tennis court as it is to order a takeaway.
Making data about where and when activities happen openly available is one step towards improving digital services in the sector.
With open data, innovators can create products that help consumers to find and book activities, tailored to their needs and interests.
Consumers can use these products to make it easier to get active.
Activity providers can reach new customers and fill unused capacity.
