What is open opportunity data?

Open opportunity data is information about what activities happen, where and when, which is available for anyone to access, use and share.

An opportunity could be a yoga class at 7pm on Tuesdays, or a squash court you can use between 10am-8pm on weekends.

Opportunity data includes enough information for an individual to decide whether an activity is right for them. It is not personal information about an individual, or commercially sensitive information.

Types of activities included in open opportunity data

Group sessions, online classes, bookable facilities, routes for cycling, coaches, mass participation events – open opportunity data covers any kind of physical activity, from abseiling to zumba.

Types of data properties

Open opportunity data includes the information customers need to decide whether an activity is right for them. It includes time, location, cost, intensity level, accessibility and gender restrictions.

What isn’t included

Open opportunity data doesn’t include commercially sensitive information, customer data, or information about class participation and attendance.
